FELCH TOWNSHIP — For the past two seasons Trout Creek has reigned supreme at the 53rd annual Felch UP Labor Day Championship, but on Monday a different champion was guaranteed.

This year, the trophy was headed to either Hortonville or Channing. After a back-and-forth battle, it was Hortonville that emerged as champion with a 6-5 win at Felch Baseball Field. Hortonville’s last title was in 1990.

Hortonville made it to the finals after a 6-1 win in the semifinals against Bonduel while Channing took out Fox Cities 10-9 in eight innings to reach the finals.

Hortonville’s Logan Grossman was named the MVP hitter of the tournament. Logan Locy was named MVP pitcher. He’s also from Hortonville.

“(The) crowds were fantastic,” said organizer John Benzie. “A big thank you to all who supported the 53rd annual Felch Labor Day Championship.”

Prior to the championship game, 99-year-old Herbie Lantz was awarded the inaugural Fan of the Year award.

That wasn’t the only honor handed out though, as Channing Railroader greats Rod Bloom and Todd Lindeman were inducted into the Felch Hall of Fame.
