Bobcats take down Rangers in season opener
FLORENCE, Wis. — After a successful campaign last season, the Florence boys varsity basketball team is in rebuilding mode as it kicked off the 2024-25 season at home against Wausaukee.
Despite the lineup changes, the Bobcats’ offense was firing on all cylinders as they rolled to a 62- 44 win over the Rangers.
“That first game is always nice to get under your belt,” Florence head coach Bryan Bomberg said. “We have a blueprint and some film to see where we can get better. I have a youthful team that can be fun to watch when we are taking care of the ball and crashing the boards. We took possessions off and had a lot of defensive lapses that were costly. But coming away with a win, I’m happy.”
Bobcats’ Mason Koski connected on three first-half 3-point shots as they took a 31-27 advantage into the second half.
Florence’s defense held Wausaukee to 17 second-half points while matching its first-half total and it took home the win.
Truth Setner led the Bobcats with 17 points. He added 13 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal.
Florence also received contributions from Mason Koski (16 points, 13 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals, 1 block), Bradley Steber (10 points, 4 rebounds, 2 steals), Caleb Backer (8 points, 8 rebounds, 1 block), Logan Koski (5 points, 4 rebounds, 2 steals), Carson Chrisman (4 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal), Carter Reed (2 points) and Ely Marefke (1 steal).
As a team, the Bobcats were 6 for 19 from 3-point land and 26 for 72 from the floor.
Florence is back in action today at home against Elcho.
