Niagara opens season with win over Gillett

NIAGARA, Wis. — Senior Tommy Martin scored 31 points and the Niagara boys varsity basketball team opened its 2024-25 campaign with a 67-21 win over Gillett on Thursday at Niagara High School.

The Badgers are 1-0 overall and 1-0 in Marinette & Oconto Conference play.

Martin scored 24 points in the first half as the Badgers took a 41-9 lead into halftime.

Niagara held the Tigers to 12 points in the second half while scoring 26 points of its own. Martin added seven in the frame while Gavin Neuens had five and Easton Holmes added four.

As a team, the Badgers were 6 for 12 from the free throw line while Gillett was 1 for 3.

Martin’s 31 led all scorers in the contest.

Niagara also received contributions from Alex Tripp (3 points), Neuens (9 points), Dante Stachowicz (4 points), Holmes (7 points), Brayden Bartels (4 points), Cameron Schiefelbein (7 points) and Noah Wheeler (2 points).

The Badgers are in Pembine on Monday against Goodman/Pembine. On Tuesday, they remain on the road to face off with Saint Thomas Aquinas.
