Nordics dominate Mid Peninsula

FELCH TOWNSHIP — Freshman Lauren Jungwirth led the North Dickinson girls varsity basketball team (5-4, 1-1) with 17 points as it dismantled Mid-Peninsula (0-7, 0-2) on Friday in Felch Township.

“We had good balanced scoring again,” Nordics head coach Kirk Mattson said. “Freshman Lauren Jungwirth played well tonight with 17 points and six rebounds. Aunika Lindholm and Ava Oman shot the ball well.”

Jungwirth scored seven in the first quarter. Raina Ledzian added seven as North Dickinson held a 14-4 lead after eight minutes.

The Nordics continued splitting the offensive load in the second quarter. Lindholm and Oman each scored five, while Jungwirth tallied six points. At halftime, they led the Wolverines 34-7.

Mid Peninsula scored four points in the final two quarters, while North Dickinson racked up 30 points in the final 16 minutes.

The Nordics connected on seven 3-pointers and finished the game 5 for 10 from the charity stripe.

North Dickinson received contributions from Jessica Harwath (6 points), Ledzian (7 points), Alyson Steinbrecher (6 points), Oman (11 points), Aubrey Applekamp (4 points) and Lindholm (13 points).

The Nordics head to Crystal Falls on Tuesday for a Skyline Central Conference-Small School clash with the Lady Trojans.

EAGLES 58, LADY TROJANS 43

CRYSTAL FALLS — All season long, the Forest Park girls varsity basketball team has struggled to remain consistent throughout four quarters of play.

That continued on Friday as the Lady Trojans (3-6, 0-0) faced Stephenson (7-2, 1-1) in Crystal Falls. Forest Park led after the first quarter, but it couldn’t fend off the Eagles’ comeback as they picked up the 58-43 win.

Stephenson has won four games in a row.

“We had a good start,” Forest Park head coach Kim Bjork said. “We just haven’t put together four quarters yet. We ran the floor much better.”

The Lady Trojans held an 18-16 lead at the end of the first quarter. However, they wouldn’t reach 10 points in a quarter for the rest of the game.

The Eagles took the lead in the second quarter, out-scoring Forest Park 14-9.

Elsie Williams led the Lady Trojans with 17 points. She also recorded two assists, a rebound and a steal.

Forest Park also received contributions from Harper Anderson (4 points, 1 rebound, 2 steals), Kaidince Woollard (12 points, 2 assists, 2 rebounds, 4 steals), Audrey Williams (5 points, 2 assists, 6 rebounds, 3 steals), Evie Anderson (1 assist, 2 rebounds), Lily Sarder (3 points, 2 rebounds), Aubrey Waara-Shamion (2 points, 1 rebound, 1 steal) and Jessie Loehr (2 assists, 3 rebounds, 2 steals).

The Lady Trojans welcome North Dickinson to town on Tuesday.

CLIPPERS 59, LADYCATS 44

STURGEON BAY, Wis. — The Florence girls varsity basketball team made the trip to Sturgeon Bay, Wis. on Friday for a non-conference matchup with the Clippers.

The LadyCats (7-5, 2-1) battled but couldn’t upend Sturgeon Bay (2-10, 1-7) and they lost 59-44.

CeCe Mills led Florence with seven points in the first half.

Without Kamdan Johnson, freshman Kelsi Chrisman led the way for the LadyCats with 13 points. She made three 3-pointers in the game.

Florence scored 20 points in the first half and 24 in the second. However, it ended the game 2 for 14 from the charity stripe.

The LadyCats also received contributions from Mills (8 points), Naomi Millan (4 points), Miley VanDenHeuvel (9 points), Bryn Sullivan (6 points) and Ashley Peterson (4 points).

Florence welcomes North Central to town on Tuesday. It returns to Northern Lakes Conference action on Thursday on the road against Crandon.
