Burklund, Stanchina lead Norway past Trojans
NORWAY — Norway freshman Kendall Burklund belted a home run and drove in four while pitching a four-inning no-hitter to lead the Knights past visiting Forest Park 15-0 in the first game of a Skyline Central Conference twinbill Thursday.
In the finale, Kara Stanchina drove in two runs and threw a complete-game one hitter as Norway defeated the Lady Trojans 8-0 to complete the sweep.
In the first game, the Knights hit Forest Park with nine runs in the bottom of the first to grab immediate control of the game. They added six more in the fourth to end the game early.
Stanchina went 3 for 3 with three runs scored, while Emma Dube rippled a double and drove home two. Tessa Castelaz doubled and drove in a run and Jordyn Moln and Anna deBidart both posted an RBI.
In the finale, Stanchina and deBidart knocked in two runs each to lead the Norway attack. Moln, Dube, Aidan Fisher and Myah Gilroy added an RBI each, while Castelaz and Lilly Tomlanovich each scored two runs.
Fisher recorded Norway’s lone extra-base hit in the second game with a double.
