Flivvers shut out Sentinels

Marquette dodged the raindrops but couldn’t avoid a sterling pitching effort by senior Andres Finley as Kingsford posted a 5-0 varsity baseball victory at the Flivvers’ field Friday.

Finley twirled a four-hit, seven-inning complete game, walking three and striking out five.

Kingsford wasn’t exactly prolific, but did enough against Sentinels pitches Alex Brennan and Ian Sheltrow to get the victory.

Jake Deuter led the Kingsford attack with a double while going 2 for 2 as he had an RBI, run scored and walk.

Gavin Grondin had the biggest hit, though, knocking in three with a bases-loaded triple during the Flivvers’ five-run fourth when all the game’s runs were scored. Deuter had a run-scoring single in that same rally, while the Sentinels’ lone error of the game also brought in a run.

Brennan started and went 5 1/3 innings, allowed all five runs — but just one of them earned — on seven hits and no walks as he fanned six. Sheltrow got the last two outs, allowing a hit and a walk.

Desmond Gleason had Marquette’s only extra-base hit, a double, while Drew Erickson, Easton Jezewski and Aidan Mason each had a single.

Starting at $3.50/week.
