Florence bats deliver in sweep over Patriots

The Florence Bobcats put their offense on display in a doubleheader sweep of visiting Goodman-Pembine in Northern Lakes Conference action Thursday.
With the two wins, Florence earns a share of the Northern Lakes Conference championship with an 8-2 record.
The Bobcats pounced on the Patriots with a seven-run second inning in the opener en route to a 13-0 victory. Trent McLain knocked in three runs with a double and earned the win on the mound with four innings of one-hit baseball.
In notching the shutout victory, McLain fanned seven and walked two.
Matthew Smith drove home two runs with a key single in the second inning. Bradley Steber and Kolton Campbell recorded two hits each.
In a wild second game, Florence posted a 21-6 triumph.
The Bobcats received offensive contributions across the board. Campbell paced Florence with three hits, four RBIs and two runs scored. McLain went 3 for 4 with three RBIs and three runs scored, while Mason Koski delivered a triple and a single with three runs driven in and two runs scored.
Breyson Kelley went 3 for 5 with a double, two runs scored and three RBIs, and Carson Chrisman posted three hits, three runs scored and two RBIs.
Kade Larson contributed two hits, three runs scored and an RBI, while Steber chipped in with two hits, three runs scored and a run driven in.
Larson recorded the victory, going four innings without allowing an earned run. He allowed five hits and walked five with six strikeouts.
Florence will host White Lake at 5 p.m. Thursday in a WIAA tournament opener.
