Johnson, relays lead Northwoods Storm track

SURING, Wis. — Florence High School senior Kamdan Johnson and three Florence-Niagara relay teams earned titles as the Marinette & Oconto Conference championships Tuesday at Suring High School.

Johnson captured both hurdles races with times of 15.18 in the 100 and 47.53 in the 300 as she focuses on her final WIAA Division 3 State Track & Field State Championships, to be held on June 6 and June 7 in La Crosse.

Johnson, the two-time defending Division 3 state 100-meter hurdles champion, ran just .08 seconds off her state winning time in 2024 at the conference meet. She also finished only .54 seconds behind her sixth-place finish at the state finals in the 300 hurdles.

The Florence-Niagara Northwoods Storm girls 800 relay team of senior Karissa Smith, freshman Lily Steinbrecher, freshman Tymarian Hannah and junior Nia Kinder earned a conference title with a time of 1:57.3.

The boys relay team of freshman Luke Deterville, senior Cameron Schiefelbein, sophomore Owen Dunkes and junior Dazavian Hannah took home first with a 1:40.42. Additionally, the 3,200 relay squad of freshman Zane Phillips, sophomore Wyatt Dunkes, junior Christian Andersson and Owen Dunkes earned a conference championship with time of 9:12.71.

Other top three boys finishers included Schiefelbein (second in the high jump with a 5-foot, 6-inch leap), Anderson (third in the 800 with a 2:11.37 and the 1,600-relay team of Anderson, Truth Setner, Wyatt Dunkes and Owen Dunkes (second in 3:47.15)

As a team, the Florence-Niagara boys finished runner-up with 104 points in back of champion Suring which finished with 184.33 points.

Northwoods Storm girls top three finishers included freshman Kelsi Chrisman (second in the 100 in personal record 13.54 and (second in the 200 in personal record 28.79), sophomore Ina Holt (second in the 1,600 in personal record 6:19.08), the 1,600 relay team of Chrisman, Marly Jones, Johnson and Bryn Sullivan (second in 4:41.97), the 400 relay team of freshman Tymarian Hannah, junior Nia Kinder, senior Karissa Smith and freshman Lily Steinbrecher (third in 55.41) and the 3,200 relay team of Holt, sophomore Sydney Swanson, sophomore Delaney Donahue and sophomore Adriana Thompson (third in 12:33.41).

Florence-Niagara placed third in the girls team standings with 84 points behind champion Coleman (165) and Crivitz (150).
