Pigeon earns WestPAC honors

IRON MOUNTAIN — Cooper Pigeon, an Iron Mountain senior, earned WestPAC first team all-conference honors after shooting an 80 Tuesday at the conference golf meet at TimberStone Golf Course.
Pigeon placed third, one stroke behind Jack Sayen of Houghton and Kirby Storm of Hancock. Sayen took honors as West Pac golfer of the year.
Hancock, with a 327, was the top boys team in the nine-team meet while the Mountaineers placed sixth and West Iron finished eighth.
Iron Mountain was also represented by Adam Krackenberger, who shot 92; Tim Recla, 93, and Brayden Kassin, 102.
Nathan Camps was West Iron’s top golfer, shooting 100.

Negaunee won the girls meet. Neither Iron Mountain or West Iron had enough scores to qualify.
West Iron’s Gracyn Melstrom shot a 117, good for sixth place and helping her land a spot on the WestPAC all-conference first team.
Iron Mountain’s Olivia Fleming finished 10th with a 123 and West Iron’s Ella Holm placed 10th with a 124. Grace Webb of Iron Mountain finished in a tie for 13th at 128.
Iron Mountain will close out the season on Wednesday with the Division 1 U.P. Finals in Harris. The boys will compete at Sage Run and the girls at Sweetgrass.
