One of the largest sporting events in Upper Michigan took place at Norway Speedway this past Saturday night in the blistering heat.
The event was sponsored by Weimer Bearing and Transmission out of Green Bay, Wis. While many speedways around the region chose to cancel due to the heat index, Norway Speedway had a packed pit area largely because of the ASA Midwest Tour being in town and a packed grandstand as well.
The 100-lap main event was won by former Norway Speedway great Dalton Zehr. Zehr, who had won many feature events while racing for Upper Michigan’s Coleman Racing Products. is now driving for Madison, Wis., businessman and racer John Beale.
Not surprising, the top cars all have Norway Speedway ties:
— Former Norway Speedway champion Dan Lindsley’s car was driven by one of the Midwest’s top drivers, Casey Johnson, who placed second.
