IRON MOUNTAIN — Kingsford’s exceptional varsity baseball season earned plenty of recognition from coaches of the Great Northern Conference, with several Flivvers receiving all-conference awards.
The Flivvers, who finished 18-9 and claimed the program’s first-ever district championship, were named Team of the Year for winning the league title outright, with head coach Joe Kriegl and his staff earning Co-Coaches of the Year along with Escanaba’s Scott Hanson and staff.
Co-Player of the Year honors went to Kingsford seniors Garrett Brown and Andres Finley. Finley batted .452 this season with a 1.121 OPS, leading the Flivvers with 38 hits including 15 doubles. He produced 36 RBIs and scored 26 runs while striking out just four times and stealing 15 bases.
Brown averaged .369 at the plate with a .876 OPS. He connected for 31 hits with 19 RBIs, and led the team with 18 walks and 27 stolen bases, caught stealing only twice.
Both Finley and Brown provided support on the mound for the Flivvers as well. Brown tossed nearly 30 innings, striking out 38 while walking just eight. Finley pitched 45.1 innings over 12 games, allowing just 10 hits while striking out 24.
