ON MOUNTAIN — The countdown is on for the YMCA U.P. Northwoods Triathlon, returning to Lake Antoine Park in Iron Mountain on Sunday, Aug. 24.

The annual event invites athletes of all ages and skill levels to swim, bike, and run through Michigan’s northwoods.

Participants can choose from a variety of race formats: Sprint Individual, Olympic Individual, Duathlon Individual and Youth Event.

All finishers will receive medals and those who register by Aug. 21 will also receive a keepsake T-shirt.

Event sponsors include Marshfield Medical Center, CSA Air, Kwik Trip, Trident, Hall Orthodontics, Crystal Lumber, We Energies and Queen City Running Company.

“The goal is to get not only individuals involved, but also families. We don’t want the triathlon to be a scary word.” said Anna Briseno, YMCA aquatics director. “The UP Northwoods Triathlon is really an event that everyone can participate in.”
