The dog days of August are anything but at Norway Speedway this week. This could possibly be one of the biggest events of the summer with everything that is planned. Not only will there be the weekly contingents of Coca-Cola Late Models, Auto Value Super Stocks, 141 Auto Sportsman, and Whelen Fab 4s, but the Speedway is welcoming some new stars and some old friends.

Starting with the headliners, the Escanaba Speedway Super Modified division will be running the third leg of its Triple Crown Series at Norway Speedway. These cars are 500-horsepower, open-wheeled winged rockets that are predominately run on dirt, but will be at Norway for the first time.

The division will be headed up by open-wheel stars Scott Degnan a former asphalt driver at Norway Speedway for many years; Paul Hosking, the current point leader; young speedster Drake Degnan; Gunnar Hansen; Jesse Denome and Coletan Pepin. There are several others including Norway Speedway’s Abi Yelle.

Also on the docket for Friday night is the second stage of the CUP Race (Central Upper Peninsula). The series is a championship between the two tracks — Norway Speedway and Sands Speedway. This will bring Marquette County’s speedster Evan Hawley back to Norway Speedway where he won Rookie of the Year in 2024 in his big Ford.

It will also bring back a top Super Stock driver, Jesse Hendrickson, who is very familiar with Victory Lane and running strong at the Speedway. Marquette’s Jeremy Yelle makes his return to the Speedway. Abi Yelle will be pulling double duty running the Super Modified division along with the Coca-Cola Late Model division, trying to win both of those crowns. The 4-cylinder division will also be participating in the CUP Championship and that group will be headed up by Shawn Harry, Barry Peterson, Joshua Karnack, Mark Isley and Todd Edwardson.

This week also includes the seasonal return of a division that at one time was bi-weekly and developed a big fan base. The Wisconsin Sport Trucks will be making their yearly return. Tom Gee, who is not a stranger to the Speedway, running a Coca-Cola Late Model for many years successfully, will be returning. Fans will be able to see many of their favorite drivers that used to run bi-weekly.

Also adding to the already full-tilt schedule of events will be the Spectator Eliminators during intermission. Paul Elertson, Jim Chartre, Dean Varda, and Derek Hansen will also be on tap.

Fans are reminded that carry-Ins are allowed. Racing starts at 7 p.m. Friday. Camping is available. The official motel of Norway Speedway is The Days Inn of Iron Mountain.

Starting at $3.50/week.
