Knights crush Stephenson in SCC opener

NORWAY – The Norway Knights rolled up more than 400 yards of offense and intercepted five passes as they cruised past Stephenson 68-2 in their 2025 season and Skyline Central Conference opener Thursday in Norway.

“Overall, a great start for our football team,” Norway first-year varsity head coach Andy Mendina said. “Our offensive line consisting of Keith Burcar, Chase Moraska and Landon Ross really led the way for our football team.”

The Knights (1-0) grabbed control early, taking a 30-2 lead after the first 12 minutes. They increased their advantage to 52-2 by halftime and then finished the scoring with 16 more in the third.

Kaleb Lapine starred on both sides of the ball. He completed all five of his passes for 156 yards and two touchdowns and picked off three passes on defense.

The Knights’ ground game dominated as well. Josh Schiltz rushed for 117 yards on six carries with four touchdowns, while Owen Baij ran for a team-high 159 yards on 10 carries with scored two touchdowns.

Elliot Kraemer caught two passes for 91 yards and a score for the Knights and added a pair of interceptions.

Landon Ross paced Norway in tackles with 11 and Noah Peterson recorded two sacks.

Next up for the Knights is a trip to Powers to face rival North Central on Friday, Sept. 5. The Jets rolled over Munising 43-8 in their season-opener on Thursday.

“We face one of our toughest opponents next week in North Central,” Medina said. “The kids are looking forward to the opportunity.”
