Buckley leads team effort as Flivvers tame Gremlins
Jett Buckley scored early and late and the Kingsford defense stayed stout throughout in the Flivvers’ 2-0 victory Thursday over the host Houghton Gremlins.
With the victory, the Flivvers improved their record to 5-2 with their two defeats coming against Marquette.
Buckley opened the scoring three minutes into the encounter with a goal off an assist from Evan Grymes. The game remained 1-0 until late in the second half when Buckley knocked in his second off a feed from Gavin Kinsella with around 12 minutes left .
“It was a true team win,” Kingsford coach Zach Celello said. “The defenders worked hard to limit scoring chances. The midfielders controlled possession and connected passes all over the field. Up front, we were able to keep the pressure on Houghton’s defense.
“This is a high-motor group of players, and they showcased that tonight,” Celello continued. “Their consistent effort and strong team play made all the difference against a well-organized and disciplined Houghton team. It’s great to see their hard work rewarded like this.”
The Flivvers travel to Seymour, Wis., today to take on the Thunder, looking for their third straight win.
