KINGSFORD – Along with great success comes great expectations. And since the Flivver volleyball team has had great success over the past three seasons, it’s natural that Kingsford’s present team is sometimes judged by how well those past teams played.

At least that’s the challenge for Kingsford head coach Jaclynn Kreider in guiding her 2025 squad, which stayed unbeaten in dual matches Thursday evening with a 25-14, 25-13, 25-23 victory over Gladstone in a Great Northern Conference match at Kingsford High School.

With the win, the UPSSA Division 1-3 top-ranked Flivvers improved to 12-0 in matches against U.P. opponents. Kingsford recorded its fourth consecutive sweep and has won its last 14 sets.

Still, the Flivvers are not a polished product yet, as Kreider explained after Thursday’s victory.

“We continue to struggle with unforced errors,” she began. “We allow teams to hang around and get momentum from our mistakes. Tonight, we did a better job in serve receive so we were not out-of-system as much but still struggled to offensively execute.”

Kreider specifically referred to her team’s serving against the Braves (4-9). The Flivvers committed 12 service errors in the match along with 11 aces in 74 attempts.

Despite some of the difficulties, Kingsford controlled the match from its inception.

“Sometimes I need to remind myself of our age and level of experience,” Kreider said. “We are going to be fine, just need to find a way to push each other to get better.”

Mylee Kreider led Kingsford’s hitters with seven, while Mckynzee Kreider added six, Cassie Olson contributed five, Staysha Jarski chipped in with four and Mya Brunswick finished with three.

Lakyn Wallis supplied two kills, while Onika Smeester, Alyvia Kowalski and Karly Trevillian contributed one each.

Trevillian and Mckynzee Kreider directed the offense with 15 and 10 assists, respectively, while Alivia Nash added three.

Nash and Brunswick led the Flivvers with four aces each, Smeester logged two and Mylee Kreider served one.

Defensively, Brunswick topped Kingsford with 11 digs to go with five each from Nash, Mylee Kreider, Smeester and Trevillian. Mckynzee Kreider finished with four and Kowalski had three.

The Flivvers did not record a block in the match.

Kingsford is scheduled to compete in the Redette Rumble in Marquette today.

North Dickinson 0

The North Dickinson Nordics had some good moments against the Division 4 fifth-ranked Munising Mustangs Thursday night but not enough of them in their 25-20, 25-9, 25-21 loss in Felch Township.

“We played in streaks, sometimes looking tough and other times struggling to get our offense going,” ND coach Taylor Johnson said. “Munising was able to take advantage of that and pull together a solid game.”

Aubrey Applekamp and Cami Sleeter led the Nordics (10-9-2) with seven kills each, while Applekamp finished with a team-high three blocks.

Raina Ledzian topped ND in assists with 15, while also contributing seven digs, four kills, three aces and a block.

Additionally, Johnson complimented the play of Nadia Carpenter, who finished with five digs, two assists, one kill and one ace.
