HOUGHTON – The Kingsford boys soccer team’s four-match winning streak was snapped Monday when the Flivvers fell to host Houghton 2-1.

The Flivvers (7-3) grabbed an early lead six minutes into the match when Jett Buckley scored off an assist by Gavin Kinsella.

But the Gremlins (5-4) held Kingsford scoreless from there while recording the tying goal from outside the penalty box a minute into the second half and notching the winner with around 14 minutes to play with another score from outside the box.

“It was a disappointing result for us,” said KHS coach Zach Celello, whose side defeated the Gremlins 2-0 on Sept. 4. “There are some things we can work on, and we’ve been using this game as a learning opportunity. We’re looking forward to regrouping and facing them again Monday.”

The Flivvers will travel to Kimberly, Wis., today to take part in a quadrangular.

“That will be a great test for us,” Celello said.

Kingsford will then play four of its final five matches at Flivver Field after the Kimberly event and at Northland Pines on Saturday.

“Looking ahead, we’re very excited to close out the season on the home front at our new field,” Celello said.

Starting at $3.50/week.
