Forest Park collects tournament title

Forest Park, the host team, finished with a 5-0 record to win a 12-team invitational volleyball tournament Saturday in Crystal Falls, defeating Munising 26-24, 25-14 in the finals.
“It was a great Saturday in the gym,” said Trojans coach Bobbie Anderson. “I’m so proud of our girls for working hard all day and building momentum with each set.”
Other teams in the field were Iron Mountain, North Dickinson, Carney-Nadeau, Bessemer, West Iron County, Stephenson, Wakefield, Norway, Ironwood and the Forest Park junior varsity, who replaced a team unable to participate.
The format had three pools, with four teams in each pool, and six teams advancing to bracket play.
The seeded teams were Forest Park varsity, Munising, Wakefield, North Dickinson, Norway and Ironwood. In the semifinals Munising defeated Norway 25-16, 19-25, 15-12, while Forest Park downed Wakefield 25-10, 25-15.
“It’s exciting to see the girls’ hard work pay off,” Anderson said.
