KHS girls 1st, boys runner-up at CC meet

Kingsford sophomore Maria Murvich and junior teammate Cavan Mullilgan captured individual titles in the girls and boys race, respectively, as the Flivvers claimed the girls team title and the Flivver boys finished second in the Kingsford Invitational cross country meet Tuesday at Iron Mountain City Park.
Murvich ran a 21:14.3 to defeat runner-up Winley Brandt of Menominee (21:58.1), while Mulligan recorded an 18:10.8 to outrace Canon Kuntz of Stephenson (19:13.1).
In the team competitions, the Flivver girls finished with 26 points to edge Stephenson which logged a 29. Norway, North Central, Escanaba and Menominee competed in the event but didn’t have enough entrants to compile a team score.
Meanwhile, the Kingsford boys took second with 31 points behind Stephenson’s 26. Norway, Escanaba and Menominee also competed but didn’t record a team score.
Other individual finishers for the Flivver girls included Olivia Wescott (7th in 24:39.3), Aalayah Noasconi (10th in 25:30.7), Ingrid Holt (14th in 26:37), Allison Deuter (17th in 28:01), Chloe Roell (22nd in 32:06.3 and Alaina Mande (23rd in 35:41.9).

Senior Lauren Adams placed eighth for Norway with a 25:04.5, while Kaylee Baldwin took 11th with a 25:41.4.
For North Central, freshman Maddy Knauf finished ninth with a 25:08.3, while Callie Flagstadt placed 12th in 26:05.8 and Mckenzie Walters finished 15th in 27:27.2).
For the Flivver boys, Orrin Smith took fourth in 20:45.7, Tyler Phelps wound up 10th with a 22:10.1, Teddy Spence placed 15th in 23:37.4, Bryce Johnson finished 16th in 24:07.2 and Lyam Schooler ended up 19th in 28:40.1.
Norway sophomore Javan Hauswirth ran a 20:51 to finish fifth for the Knights.
Kingsford coach Sarah Noasconi called the invitational a “big success” afterwards.
