Moore, Sleik take top honors in GNC tennis

Kingsford captured titles in No. 1 and No. 2 singles and finished fourth as a team as it hosted the Great Northern Conference girls tennis championships Thursday.

Marquette was the top team in a field of six, followed by Escanaba and West Iron County.

Winning conference titles for Kingsford were Aubrie Moore at No. 1 singles and Maddy Sleik at No. 2 singles. Sleik defeated West Iron County’s Kaycee Ingram in the finals.

West Iron’s top doubles team of Destiny Lemery and Aubrey Richardson earned a conference title for the Wykons.

Kingsford’s Alaysa Bacon and Mira Johnson placed second in No. 2 doubles, bowing to Escanba’s Sophie Hill and Isabella Noblet. Erin Kolbas of West Iron placed second in No. 3 singles.

Marquette’s Stella Dehlin was the No. 3 singles champion while teammate Kirra Longton took the No. 4 singles crown.

Marquette also took titles in No. 3 doubles — Charlye Swajanen and Eva Dewitt — and No. 4 doubles — Brynn Helman and Grace Jandreau.
