NORWAY – The North Dickinson Nordics and the Norway Knights locked up in a quite a tussle Tuesday evening at Norway High School before the Nordics left with a 26-24, 17-25, 25-23, 26-24 win in Skyline Central Conference play.

“The contest was competitive from start to finish, ending on a thunderous kill by senior Aubrey Applekamp,” Nordics coach Taylor Johnson said of her top middle. “Norway played tremendous defense and covered the floor really well.”

Applekamp had a career-best hitting night with 16 kills to pace the Nordics, while senior setter Raina Ledzian returned to the lineup after an ankle injury with a strong performance, finishing with 27 assists, 14 digs, nine kills and six aces.

Junior libero Dalaney Steinbrecher anchored the defense with 33 digs, while Applekamp topped the club with three blocks. Steinbrecher also added two aces in the match.

Other Nordic players contributing included Dakota Massie (1 kill, 8 digs, 5 aces), Aunika Lindholm (1 dig), Alle Brown (2 digs), Nadia Carpenter (5 digs, 2 assists, 2 aces), Ella Rossi (5 kills, 1 assist, 3 digs, 4 aces), Tatum Cherubini (1 kill, 8 digs) and Cami Sleeter (8 kills).

For the Knights, Kendall Burklund led with nine kills and nine digs; Addy Burklund added seven kills and nine digs, along with four aces. Aili Freiberg tallied 19 assists and Chloe Chartier had six kills.
