Prep volleyball: Nordics win 3rd straight; Flivvers outlast Calumet
FELCH TOWNSHIP – The North Dickinson Nordics began their 2025 season without their leader, Raina Ledzian, who was unable to play because of a sprained ankle.
The Nordics went 0-1-2 at the Kingford Invitational without Ledzian, but since her return, North Dickinson has won three straight matches and 9 of the 10 sets played, including Thursday’s 25-20, 25-11, 25-21 win over visiting Carney-Nadeau.
Ledzian finished the match with 19 assists, 12 aces, eight digs and five kills.
“Raina played another all-around stellar match, running a diverse offensive attack and varying her service strategy,” ND coach Taylor Johnson said.
Ledzian had plenty of help throughout the Nordic lineup. Aubrey Applekamp recorded seven kills and four blocks, Cami Sleeter posted six kills and two aces and Nadia Carpenter contributed five kills.
Ella Rossi delivered four aces along with two kills and an assist for North Dickinson.
Defensively, Dalaney Steinbrecher led the Nordics (3-1-2) with 26 digs.
“Carney played a very fundamentally strong game, but I thought Dalaney Steinbrecher did a great job covering the floor and allowing us an opportunity to get some good looks at the open court,” Johnson said.
Tatum Cherubini added 13 digs, Carpenter chipped in with 11 and Aunika Lindholm finished with seven as the Nordics played stout defense.
“I thought that we played a resilient match,” Johnson said. “We lost three-year starter Dakota Massie to illness just before the game, but Nadia Carpenter and Aunika Lindholm were both able to step up and play out of position to account for the loss.”
The Nordics are slated to play in the Baraga Invitational today.

“Tonight was a fun battle for us with a ton of excitement for the sport of volleyball in the gym,” Kingsford coach Jaclynn Kreider said. “I respect (Coach Katie Bonacorsi’s) program at Calumet a ton and enjoy the environment their local community provides for volleyball.”
Mylee Kreider topped the Flivvers (8-2-1) in hitting with 11, with Mya Brunswick next up with 10. Middle hitter Cassie Olson balanced the attack with nine kills.
“Getting Cassie involved in the offense tonight was a game changer,” coach Kreider said.
