Florence prevailed 3-0 as the No. 2 seed over seventh-seeded Phelps in a WIAA Division 5 regional semifinal on Thursday.

The LadyCats will host No. 3 seed Niagara at 7 p.m. today for the regional title.

No. 1 seed Suring and No. 4 seed Elcho meet tonight in the other regional bracket of Sectional No. 3. The sectional semifinal will be played Thursday, with a berth in state tournament at stake Saturday, Nov. 1.

Florence showed a balanced attack at home against Phelps, posting scores of 25-9, 25-11 and 25-7.

“Senior Sami Demuri had a great night hitting, posting one of her best outings and a fantastic hitting percentage with 12 kills and .440 percentage,” said Florence coach Teresa Chrisman. Demuri also led with 16 digs.

Miley VanDenHeuvel added 10 kills and Kelsi Chrisman had eight. Chrisman also had 3 aces and 100% serving and notched 18 assists.

“It was knotted in the beginning with Phelps playing some great defense, but Ashlyn VanDenHeuvel went on a nice serving and scoring run for us to settle in,” coach Chrisman said. “When we are clicking as a team it is really a great thing to watch,” she added.
