Florence posts 2-2 mark at GB volleyball tourney
Florence went up against top competition Saturday at the Green Bay N.E.W. Lutheran volleyball tournament, finishing 2-2 overall.
With the regular season wrapped up, the LadyCats await the winner of Phelps and White Lake for a WIAA Division 5 regional game at home on Thursday.
Saturday’s tournament was played at the Green Bay Sports Complex in Ashwaubenon.
“All and all it was great day to get ready for regionals coming up,” said Florence coach Teresa Chrisman. “We had been battling with illness and other distractions so I was real happy with how they played.”
The LadyCats advanced to the gold bracket with wins over Green Bay N.E.W Lutheran 25-17, 21-25, 16-14, and Algoma 25-18, 25-19, and then a loss to Manitowoc Lutheran 15-25, 15-25.
In bracket play, Florence fell to Sheboygan Christian 17-25,17-25 — a team ranked No. 2 in Division 4.
In the championship match, Sheboygan Christian edged Manitowoc Lutheran. Other teams participating were Peshtigo, Crivitz and Kewaunee.
Miley VanDenHeuvel and Kelsi Chrisman notched 24 kills apiece for Florence. “They both had very efficient hitting percentages with minimal errors,” coach Chrisman said.
Chrisman also tallied 35 digs and notched 100% serving. Sami Demuri tallied nine aces on the day and 32 assists.
VanDenHeuvel added 7 blocks while Emily Wolske contributed four block assists. “This is a huge improvement for Wolske,” coach Chrisman said.
