Ledzian reaches 1,000 assists in Nordics’ sweep

HARRIS – North Dickinson senior setter Raina Ledzian joined an elite group of players Tuesday evening when she recorded her 1,000th career assist in the Nordics’ 25-20, 25-17, 25-20 victory over host Bark River-Harris.
Ledzian finished Tuesday’s match with 18 assists, 15 digs, 7 kills, 1 ace and 1 block as her team won its sixth match out of the last seven.
“It was a memorable evening for Raina …,” ND coach Taylor Johnson said. “(She) had an all-around standout performance, combining strong offensive play with sharp defense while running the floor.”
North Dickinson (16-10-2) had key contributors across the lineup. Cami Sleeter topped ND hitters with 12 kills, while Aunika Lindholm and Aubrey Applekamp added four each and Ella Rossi chipped in with three.
Dalaney Steinbrecher served a team-high nine aces, while Rossi contributed two.
Defensively, Steinbrecher paced the Nordics in digs with 22 and Applekamp topped ND in blocks with two.
“Cami Sleeter made her presence known at the net, while libero Dalaney Steinbrecher delivered strong serves and anchored the defense,” Johnson said.
Johnson added that she liked her team’s play in general.
“The Nordics maintained high energy throughout the match, securing an impressive team win against a determined and scrappy Bark River-Harris squad.”
North Dickinson will close its regular season with a home match against Norway (15-8-2) tonight. The Nordics won the previous encounter in four sets on Sept. 7 in Norway.

Norway battled at home Tuesday on Senior Night, but fell to Munising by scores of 19-25, 25-23, 20-25, 25-23 and 8-15.
“Both teams hustled hard,” said Norway coach Meghan Rossato. “I was very impressed by our middles and the blocks they put up tonight. Their timing was on point.”
Rossato credited Kendall Burklund, Cayleah Clifford and Aili Freiberg for their setups, while noting Ashley Carlson and Payton Paquette have greatly improved their coverage and reading.
“Volleyball is a mentally challenging game and we let mistakes overcome our mental toughness tonight,” Rossato said.
“Kendall has such great hustle and she went for everything.” she continued. “Addy (Burklund) has an incredible volleyball IQ for being a freshman, she knows how to make a play.”
