Mountaineers handle Emeralds for second time
IRON MOUNTAIN — Brayden Kassin completed five passes, all for touchdowns, to lead the Iron Mountain Mountaineers past the Manistique Emeralds 43-14 Friday night at Mountaineer Field.
Kassin hit Ethan Davis for two scores — one a 24-yarder and the other a 27-yarder.
Additionally, Quinton Doby hauled in a 44-yard scoring strike, Gavin Winters caught a 27-yarder and Charles Anderson grabbed a 7-yard TD pass.
Winters led the Mountaineers (5-2) in rushing with 63 yards as IM recorded 163 yards on the ground as a team. Kassin threw for 129 yards as the Mountaineers put up 292 of total offense.
“Overall, we are proud of our guys for earning this victory tonight,” IM coach Kyle Johnson said of his team, which defeated Manistique 35-8 on Sept. 12. “We executed our offensive game plan well and did some good things defensively.”
Marcus Lindgren paced the IM defense with seven solos tackles, while Davis, Charles Baldridge and Connor Pickett chipped in with five each.
Iron Mountain finishes its regular season campaign with a trip to Negaunee on Friday. The Miners will enter the game with a 5-3 mark after defeating Houghton 42-6 in week eight.
“Our team continues to get better each week and are looking forward to closing out our regular season in Negaunee,” Johnson said.
