Nordics claim 8-player crown
North Dickinson improved to 8-0 Friday with 42-14 win over Brimley in a Great Lakes Eight Conference-Central game at James D. Priestap Memorial Field in Felch Township.
The victory clinches the conference title for the Nordics with a 4-0 mark. Brimley fell to 3-5 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
“I was very happy with the way we started,” said North Dickinson coach Mike Christian. “Defensively we shut them down early, which we have struggled with lately … we had a little extra hop to our step and it showed, especially with our D-line. They played great.”
The Nordics led 26-0 at halftime.
North Dickinson quarterback Brady Jungwirth completed 9 of 15 passes for 150 yards and three TDs. He had 68 yards rushing, including a 5-yard scoring run in the second quarter.
Jason Graham totaled 195 yards on the ground on 16 carries. In the third quarter, he scored on a 5-yard run hauled in a 23-yard TD pass. Tyler Fleming added to the offensive punch with 108 yards rushing and 48 yards receiving. He scored on a 3-yard run in the first quarter and a 26-yard pass in the second.
Jungwirth connected with Trent Kramer on a 7-yard scoring pass in the first quarter.
The Nordics hit paydirt on three of their six conversion attempts. Jungwirth and Graham ran for scores and Kramer caught a pass from Jungwirth.
Graham led the defense with 12 tackles and Jungwirth snared an interception. Ty King added a pair of sacks.
North Dickinson wraps up its regular season at Eben Junction Superior Central (3-5) on Saturday.
