Nordics’ offense keeps rolling along
FELCH TOWNSHIP — Since a four-point win over Lake Linden-Hubbell in their season opener, the North Dickinson Nordics have dominated their opponents with a high-powered offense.
That trend continued Friday night when the Nordics hit the 60-point mark for the third straight game, defeating visiting Stephenson 60-36. North Dickinson rang up 52 points in the second and third quarters combined to break open a tight game after the first eight minutes.
‘Overall Stephenson (1-5) played very well tonight,” ND coach Mike Christian said afterwards. “I again am proud of my team as we are taking everyone’s best shot and responding.”
Jason Graham ran for three touchdowns and caught another as the UPSSA eight-player third-ranked Nordics pushed their record to 6-0.
Graham starred on both sides of the line of scrimmage. He rushed for 141 yards on 12 carries, caught five passes for 67 yards and led North Dickinson in tackles with 15.
The teams battled to an 8-8 tie after the first quarter, but the Nordics pulled away with 30 points in the second period to head into the halftime break up 38-22.
Toby Fleming got things going for ND in the second quarter with a 78-yard interception return. Brady Jungwirth then connected with Fleming on a 30-yard scoring strike before Jungwirth added a score of his own on a 4-yard run.
Jungwirth then found Graham for a 40-yard TD to give the Nordics some comfort room at the break.
The home team picked up where it left off when the third quarter started. Graham ran in from 14 yards and 4 yards, while Jungwirth crossed the goal line on a 5-yard rush to give the Nordics a 60-28 lead.
The Nordics converted 6 of their 8 2-point conversion attempts. Jungwirth ran for two and passed for two, Trent Kramer and Ty King each caught one conversion pass and Fleming and Graham ran in one apiece.
Jungwirth completed 9 of 14 passes for 164 yards. Aside from Graham’s three receptions, Kramer caught three passes for 84 yards and Caiden Crites had one catch for 13 yards.
Fleming finished the night with 111 yards rushing on nine carries and added 11 tackles. Jungwirth also posted 11 tackles with two for loss.
King added eight tackles and an interception, while Sam DePotie recovered a fumble.
North Dickinson will have the week off as its scheduled opponent Carney-Nadeau has forfeited the remainder of its season. The Nordics back into action on Friday, Oct. 17, when they host Brimley (2-4).
