YMCA swimmers place 1st at Marquette meet

IRON MOUNTAIN — The Northern Lights YMCA swim team made a strong showing at the 2025 Wildcat Aquatics Club Trick or Treat Meet in Marquette.
Northern Lights swimmers earned top team honors against competitors from both the Marquette club and the Marinette-Menominee YMCA.
Swimmers from Northern Lights turned in impressive performances across all age groups, collecting numerous first-place finishes and personal best times.
Leading the way was Allison Deuter, who swept multiple events in the 15-16 girls division, including the 100 Free (59.65), 50 Fly (29.17), and 1000 Free (12:54.04).
Dominic Tatangelo earned top finishes in the 100 Fly (1:18.92) and 200 IM (2:46.82). Cira Windell took first in the 50 Breast (36.71).
The younger swimmers were equally impressive. Greyson Williams dominated the 9-10 boys, winning five events with standout times in the 50 Free (35.79) and 100 Free (1:20.03).
In the 11-12 age group, Ella Murphy earned first in the 100 Free (1:06.96), 50 Back (32.75), and 50 Fly (31.61), and Sierra Tatangelo also contributed multiple victories, highlighted by the 200 Free (2:42.56) and 50 Free (31.81).
Among the youngest competitors, Jack Krznarich, age 7, swept the 8 and Under boys division, winning all four of his events, including the 25 Free (19.23) and 50 Free (45.37). On the girls side, Mackenzie Kowalczyk took first in the 8 and Under 50 Free (47.64), while Alivia Bunker and Ayla Harrand both notched strong top-five finishes.
The meet showcased the team’s depth and improvement, with numerous swimmers setting personal bests. Coach Aimee Tatangelo highlighted the athletes’ work ethic and growing confidence early in the season.
“Northern Lights YMCA’s victory marks an exciting start to their 2025-26 swim season as they prepare for upcoming meets at home and Marinette, Wis.,” Tatangelo said.
