Adams, Knights fight off Broncos
HARRIS – Lauren Adams sank eight of 10 free throws in the fourth quarter and pulled to within 14 points of setting a new Norway High School overall scoring record as the Knights held off Bark River-Harris 52-45 in a Skyline Central Conference clash Monday evening.
Adams finished with 25 points, though she sat out several minutes in the second half in foul trouble. Jessa Rossler added 11 points for the Knights, who improved to 2-0.
Norway head coach Brian Adams credited his team with playing through his daughter’s foul trouble.
“I thought the girls did a good job of holding it down and not letting (BR-H) go on a major run during that time frame, which allowed us to get (Lauren) back in the game and eventually let her ice it at the free throw line,” he said.
Both teams came out hot in the opening quarter, which ended with the Knights ahead 20-14. Norway extended that to 32-23 at the break, but the Broncos (1-2) pulled within 39-36 after three quarters.
“We had trouble in the second half, which allowed the game to tighten up after holding a double-digit lead,” Coach Adams said. “We didn’t execute the basic defensive principles well, nor our defensive strategy for how we wanted to play them.”
Emma Zawada sank a pair of 3-pointers in the third quarter and added two more in the fourth to help the Broncos stay within striking distance.
But Rossler and Jordyn Moln scored a bucket each and Adams finished things off from the foul line.
“It was an ugly win,” Coach Adams said. “We didn’t look great for stretches on defense. You’ll have games like this during a season. We were on the road, gym was loud, we struggled at times, foul trouble, and yet they still showed grit and got the win.
“Proud of them for that on a night like tonight.”
The Knights will host Rapid River (1-1) on Friday.

Bartoszek added 10 points, three assists and three rebounds.
“We played good defense,” said Forest Park coach Kim Bjork. “Our pressure allowed us scoring opportunities and we were patient on offense.”
