IRON MOUNTAIN – With an offensive eruption, the Kingsford Flivvers earned a pair of non-conference hockey wins over the weekend, demolishing Antigo (Wis.) 8-1 Friday evening and Fenton Linden 8-2 on Saturday afternoon in the annual Teddy Bear Toss game.
The Flivvers, moving above .500 at 5-4-0, saw seven different players tally goals in the two games combined, firing a total of 98 shots to 37 for the weekend and posting consecutive games of eight goals for the first time since February 2020.
“Our guys played hard,” Flivvers head coach Greg Wadge said. “Puck movement was really good. Overall I was super pleased with the weekend.”
Saturday’s contest against Fenton (4-6-0) saw fans bring stuffed animals to donate to local emergency responders, charities, and crisis centers for children in need. The Flivvers didn’t make the fans wait long to toss the animals on the ice, as senior Jake Deuter scored just 28 seconds into the game, smashing home his own rebound for the game’s first goal. He wristed a second marker two minutes later, his fifth of the season, and the Flivvers were rolling.
Senior captain Will Murvich, who had an assist on Deuter’s first goal, made it 3-0 game at 10:39 of the first. Junior Jack Spreen assisted on all three scores and added a goal of his own (his fourth of the year) with just seconds remaining in the first to answer the Griffins who had managed to slice the Kingsford lead to 3-2.

Kingsford sophomore Casey Clisch battles for the puck during the second period against Fenton Linden Saturday afternoon at Mountain View Ice Arena. Clisch had two goals in each of the Flivvers’ wins over the weekend.
Sophomore Paulo Lenzi, who buried a pair of goals in the Friday night win over Antigo, put Kingsford up 5-2 on a power play in the second period with his sixth goal of the season with assists from freshman Colin Olsen and junior Seth Greenleaf.
In the third, Murvich added his second goal of the game and fourth of the weekend with a fourth assist by Spreen. Sophomore Casey Clisch scored the final two Flivver goals, giving him a four-goal weekend after he tagged Antigo twice Friday night. Clisch and Murvich currently lead the team with seven goals each this season.
Junior Jonah Doenier and Lenzi assisted on Clisch’s first goal, while freshman Eli Siren notched his first prep assist with a helper on the final goal.
Senior Nate Scullon (3-2-0) earned the victory in net on Saturday. He stopped 26 shots including 13 in the final period.
Sophomore goaltender Alex Hemgren (2-2-0) took the win against Antigo. The Red Robins (5-3-0) managed to sneak one through in the game’s opening seconds but were choked to just eight shots the rest of the game as the Flivvers controlled the puck throughout.
In addition to the double goal efforts by Lenzi, Clisch and Murvich in the whitewash of Antigo, senior Cam Stratton and Greenleaf each notched their first goals of the season.
Stratton poked his in through traffic in front of the net unassisted in the third. Greenleaf fired from inside the blue line late in the second period with an assist from Lenzi after registering two assists earlier in the game. He added a third assist in the third period and after the weekend now leads the team with 11 helpers.
Doenier, Olsen, Lenzi (2) and Clisch all added assists, as well as sophomore Jacob Waara notching his first of the season.
“Definitely a lot of guys on the scoresheet,” Wadge said. “Getting that third line out there really helps. They were good Friday, so we had legs Saturday, and getting them out there again, that’s going to help down the road for sure.”
