Moore sets new KHS record in win over IM
KINGSFORD – Kingsford sophomore Aubrie Moore set a new Kingsford record for points in a game as she rang up 39 as the Flivvers defeated Iron Mountain 75-21 in a nonconference game Tuesday at Flivver Gym.
Moore sank seven 3-point shots in the game, tying the school record of Kelsey Roberts.
The 2024-25 all-U.P. second teamer got her team off and running with 10 points in the opening quarter when the Flivvers (1-1) built a 17-5 lead. Moore then broke loose for 15 more in the second frame when Kingsford expanded its advantage to 40-13 at intermission.
Moore recorded five points in the third and then added nine in the fourth to close her historic performance.
Kingsford coach Mike Cross had high praise for his standout guard afterward.
“She shot the ball so well from the 3-point line and from midrange. I’ve seen some amazing shooting performances in my years. That performance is right up there with any performance from any Flivver player or opposing player I’ve ever seen.”
Senior center Cassie Olson added 15 points and six rebounds, Alivia Kowalski tallied three points and five assists, Jazz Shaughnessy added three points and five rebounds and Avery Edwards scored four points for the other Flivver starters.
Adelyn Normand came off the bench to contribute six points in the winning cause,
“Overall, it was an outstanding team performance,” Cross said. “I thought we shared the ball tonight. We had 18 assists on 31 baskets.
“The big thing that jumps out at me is the number of turnovers we had, three, which was a huge improvement over our first game against Gladstone (a 50-38 defeat) in which we had 21.”
The Mountaineers, who are averaging just 20.3 points per game in its three consecutive losses, were led by Alysia Wood’s 12 points. Monroe Vedin added seven.
The Mountaineers look to get their offense revved up when they travel to Bark River-Harris (1-2) tonight, while the Flivvers host Escanaba on Friday.
