De PERE, Wis. — Looking out of sync from the get go and facing a strong and physical De Pere team, Kingsford found themselves on the short end of 5-0 non-conference varsity hockey contest Friday evening at the De Pere Ice Arena.
The Flivvers (2-3-0) were outshot 38-18 against the unbeaten Voyageurs (4-0-1), unable to take advantage of a 5-on-3 power play in the first period and a five-minute power play in the third period in getting shut out for a second time this season.
“That is a good team,” Flivvers head coach Greg Wadge said. “We just looked a little unorganized, especially on the power play. We had guys in the wrong spots, looking for stretch passes that we never practice. It should be short quick passes coming out of the zone. But, yeah, not to take anything away from them. They’re a real good team.”
De Pere jumped out to a 1-0 lead 8:53 into the game and quickly made it 2-0 with another tally just seven seconds later, giving the hosts all they would need. Landon Smith scored the first goal, his first of two in the game, with Kade Koszarek adding the second.
Leo Dose made it 3-0 at 9:32 of the second. Austin Lee added a shorthanded score during the five-minute major penalty with 10:25 to play in the game. Smith scored again with 3:04 to play.

Dose was called for the five-minute major penalty in the third period, hitting senior assistant captain Jake Deuter from behind into the boards behind the net – a hit that knocked off Deuter’s helmet and kept him down on the ice for a few moments. Deuter skated off on his power and later returned to the ice.
Senior Nate Scullon suffered the loss in net for Kingsford, dropping to 2-1-0 for the season.
The Flivvers head to Bay City next weekend for a pair of games.
“We’ve got four good days of practice before Bay City, so we’ll be able to clean some of this up,” Wadge said. “I’m expecting those games should be tight.”
