Patriots’ big quarter spills Kingsford

Westwood exploded for 30 points in the third quarter to trim a 29-14 halftime deficit to one point and went on to win 59-54 at Kingsford on Tuesday.
“It was a very competitive game between two state semi-finalists from a year ago — Kingsford in Division 2 and Westwood in Division 3,” said Kingsford coach Ben Olsen.
Westwood’s A.J. Pizziola had four three-pointers in the game-changing third quarter.
Gaige Sorenson led Kingsford with 14 points and added four rebounds. Owen Olkkonen contributed 12 points and eight boards, while Jack Kriegl also scored 12. Jett Buckley added 11 points and seven rebounds. Matthew Sundquist grabbed 10 rebounds and scored two points.
Blake Tomasoski rounded out Kingsford’s scoring with three points.
Westwood was led by Ethan Marta’s 18 points, 13 rebounds and four assists. Pizziola and Caden Balzarini added 14 points each.
The Patriots improved to 4-0 while the Flivvers slipped to 2-1.
