YMCA swimmers cut times at Sturgeon Bay
Northern Lights YMCA swimmer Ella Murphy turned in four finishes in the top two at the Jingle Bell Meet in Sturgeon Bay, Wis.
Swimmers from the Northern Lights YMCA turned in a strong performance at the Jingle Bell Meet held Saturday in Sturgeon Bay, Wis., posting numerous top finishes and significant time improvements.
“Swimmers across all age groups demonstrated remarkable progress,” said coach Aimee Tatangelo.
In the 11-12 age group, Ella Murphy was a standout, capturing first place in the 100 freestyle and the 50 freestyle, while also placing second in the 100 IM and 50 butterfly. Murphy consistently raced near or faster than her previous bests, underscoring her versatility.
Younger swimmers also made their mark. Jack Krznarich earned a first-place finish in the 200 freestyle and the 25 breaststroke in the 8-and-under division, while adding podium finishes in multiple sprint events. Alivia Bunker showed strong improvement, cutting more than six seconds off her 50 freestyle time, and James Carlson claimed the 500 freestyle.
In the 13-14 division, Dominic Tatangelo turned in a strong all-around performance, earning podium finishes in the 100 butterfly and 200 freestyle while improving times in each event.
In the older age groups, Northern Lights swimmers continued to excel. Bryce Johnson placed second in the 100 butterfly and third in the 100 backstroke, while posting improved times in multiple events. Ella McLean captured second place in the 100 breaststroke with a notable time drop.
Coach Tatangelo praised the team’s overall effort and progress. “This meet showed how hard our swimmers are working in practice,” she said. “We saw great racing, strong finishes, and meaningful time improvements at every level.”
