Flivvers jump on FP early for third win

CRYSTAL FALLS – In the opening game of the Kingsford-Forest Park girls-boys doubleheader Monday, the Flivver girls shot out to a 20-2 lead after one quarter and maintained control the rest of the way in their 56-42 triumph over the Lady Trojans at Eddie Chambers Gymnasium.

The Flivvers dominated the second quarter as well, building a 40-10 halftime advantage. Kingsford held a 54-22 lead heading into the final period when the Lady Trojans put together their best quarter by outscoring their guests 20-2.

Kingsford sophomore Aubrie Moore led all scorers with 20 points, connecting on 7 of her 8 2-point shots and 2 of 5 from beyond the 3-point arc. Senior post Cassie Olson did her part on the interior, finishing with 16.

Harper Anderson topped Forest Park (3-3) with 11 points, while Aubrey Waara-Shamion and Addee Hagglund each contributed nine.

FP’s top scorer Elsie Williams did not play because of a lingering injury.

“We struggled offensively,” FP coach Kim Bjork said. “We had some looks but couldn’t capitalize. We’ll keep pushing to get better.”

The Lady Trojans host West Iron County (2-1) on Thursday, while the Flivvers travel to Calumet (3-4) on Thursday, as well.
