Florence battles past Cards 88-78

Florence evened its Northern Lakes Conference boys basketball record at 2-2 with an 88-78 win at home Monday over Crandon.

Carson Chrisman led Florence with 25 points — one of four Bobcats to hit double figures. Truth Setner added 22 points, Promice Setner netted 19 and Bowen Spears scored 18.

Bradly Steber contributed four points.

“When you look at our team without a true post player and the way we are battling, as a coach, you are proud of their grit and effort,” said Florence coach Bryan Bomberg.

After going into halftime with a 36-28 lead, Florence managed to outscore the Cardinals 52-50 in a high-octane second half.

“A solid win and a fun one to come out on top of,” Bomberg said. “We are playing though mistakes. Once this team figures out how to cut down those mistakes, they will only continue to grow and get better.”

Eighteen of Chrisman’s 25 points came in the second half, including a pair of threes and 6 of 7 from the free throw line. In all, the Bobcats made 21 of 30 free throw attempts and totaled four 3-pointers en route to their third straight win.

Crandon fell to 1-3 in the conference and 2-12 overall. Deegan Kircher led the Cardinals with 25 points. Crandon made 14 of 26 free throws.

Florence, 5-6 overall, travels to Wabeno-Laona (11-2, 4-0) on Thursday.
