KHS girls check Forest Park

Kingsford held Forest Park to 4 of 22 shooting on 3-point attempts and posted a 44-27 nonconference basketball win at home Thursday.
“I thought our girls played outstanding defense,” said Flivvers coach Mike Cross. “We’ve got to hang our hat on that end of the court and hope we get a little offense on the other end.”
Aubrie Moore led Kingsford with 20 points, including eight in the third quarter as the Flivvers went on a 12-4 run to go up 36-21.
“We kind of struggled at times offensively but it’s a testament to our girls to stick with it and keep battling,” Cross said. “Avery Edwards had a great game on defense and offense. She hit some really big shots for us and defends so hard.”
Forest Park sparkplug Elsie Williams was held to 11 points. “Her ability to score placed a lot of pressure on us to account for her,” Cross said. “As a team, I thought this was our best effort of the year to be able to hold a player of her ability to 11.”
Edwards nearly matched that output with 10 points and Alyvia Kowalski added nine points for Kingsford.
“We were able to get going in the first quarter on the strength of Alyvia Kowalski driving to the basket, Aubrie hitting a few shots and Cass Olson posting up really well for us,” Cross said.
“Kim Bjork does a great job with that Forest Park program,” Cross added. “Her girls play so hard and fundamentally are so good. They generally shoot well, handle the ball well and defend well.”
The Flivvers (10-2) will take an eight-game winning streak into a home game Tuesday against West Iron. Forest Park (9-5) hosts Munising on Tuesday.
