Knights rally past L’Anse at MTU
HOUGHTON – The Norway Knights outscored L’Anse 20-9 in the fourth quarter to complete their comeback and extend their boys basketball winning streak to five with a 51-46 decision over the Purple Hornets on Tuesday in the Lakes/MTU Showcase held at Michigan Tech University.
Kaleb LaPine scored 10 of his 12 points in the final period, while Anthony Pineda logged seven of his game-high 21 in the last eight minutes to spur the comeback.
The Knights (5-2) fell into a hole with a poor second quarter. After staying within 14-10 after the opening frame, Norway managed just eight points in the second to go into halftime down 30-18.
Pineda heated up in the third quarter, posting nine of his team’s 13 points to help the Knights climb within 37-31 heading into the fourth.
Additional scorers for Norway included Noah Pearson with eight, Elliott Kraemer with six and Owen Baij with four.
Same Lee led a balanced L’Anse (5-2) attack with 14.
The Knights will resume their season on Monday when they travel to West Iron County (1-5).
