Knights struggle but eventually subdue WIC

IRON RIVER – Elliott Kraemer scored 11 of his game-high 14 points in the fourth quarter as Norway came from behind to defeat West Iron County 37-21 in a non-conference matchup Monday at Charles Greenlund Gymnasium.

The Knights scuffled offensively for the first three quarters, compiling just 20 points. But after a solid first quarter with 12 points, the Wykons couldn’t produce much, either, scoring just nine points over the final 24 minutes, including zero in the fourth.

And that’s the quarter in which Norway (6-2) made its move. Down 21-20 heading into the final frame, the Knights recorded 17 points down the stretch and won going away.

Kraemer knocked down three 3-point shots and another bucket to spark the late run.

Norway received additional scoring from Kaleb Lapine with nine points, Noah Pearson with eight and Anthony Pineda with six.

Seth Oberlin led the Wykons (1-6) with seven points. Christian Robles and Nathan Camps added five points each while Jessiah Smith and Blayze Schueler chipped in with two apiece.

The Wykons (1-6) travel to Crystal Falls to face Forest Park (6-2) on Thursday, while the Knights head to Munising today for a matchup with the Mustangs (3-3).
