ND corrals Mustangs for 7th straight win

FELCH TOWNSHIP – Seeking their seventh consecutive win, the North Dickinson Nordics stayed slowly against Munising on Thursday but took over in the second and third quarters on their way to a 52-32 victory at Carl F. Lemin Gymnasium.

Down 10-9 after one quarter, the Nordics (9-1) seized control in the second quarter when they outscored Munising 18-6 to lead 27-16 at halftime.

ND kept its roll going in the third with a 19-4 run to build a 46-20 lead.

Trenton Kramer scored 10 of his game-high 21 points to spark the second-quarter surge, while Brady Jungwirth recorded all seven of his points in the third to help the UPSSA Division 4 fourth-ranked Nordics pull away.

Jungwirth also contributed five rebounds and four steals, while Kramer registered four rebounds, a steal and a block.

Additionally, Ty King finished with 13 points and team-best eight rebounds, Jason Graham posted five points, four steals, three rebounds and a block, Spencer Kramer added four points, four steals and two rebounds and Richard Haney added two points.

Nolan Connaughton paced the Mustangs (4-6) with 11 points.

North Dickinson will travel to Crystal Falls on Tuesday for a battle with second-ranked Forest Park (8-2).

IRON MOUNTAIN – Brayden Kassin scored 14 points and Charles Baldridge contributed 13 to lead the Iron Mountain Mountaineers to a 46-39 victory over Manistique Thursday at Mountaineer Gym.

With the win, IM is back to .500 at 5-5.

“We played well enough to get a win tonight,” IM coach Kyle Johnson said. “We gave up too many offensive rebounds so that is something we need to really focus on.”

Johnson credited Lane Wender (eight points) and Charles Anderson (seven points) for their contributions to the victory.

The Mountaineers were scheduled to host Gwinn (0-10) on Friday.
