Nordics overcome Eagles in 2nd half

STEPHENSON – The North Dickinson Nordics shook off a feisty Stephenson team in the second half on their way to a 39-27 road victory in Skyline Central girls basketball Thursday.

North Dickinson (5-6) took a 10-4 lead after the first quarter but only scored four points in the second as the Eagles (1-7) pulled within 14-13 at halftime.

“Very physical game and I thought we did a decent job of playing in a game like that,” ND coach Kirk Mattson said. “We didn’t have the best first half, but I think we adjusted to the physicality after halftime.”

Mattson credited sophomore Aspen Anderson for being a spark for change in the second half as the Nordics outscored Stephenson 12-6 in the third and 13-8 in the fourth.

“Aspen Anderson did a great job of matching that style of play and the rest of her teammates fed of that and that was huge for us,” Mattson said.

Anderson led ND with 12 points, while Ava Oman provided 11 and Raina Ledzian scored seven.

Nora Parker paced the Eagles with nine.

The Nordics are scheduled to travel to Superior Central (2-6) tonight.
