The Green Bay Packers are hiring the former Arizona Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon to be the new defensive coordinator in Green Bay, NFL Network reported.

Gannon, 42, takes over Green Bay’s defense after former Packers DC Jeff Hafley took the head coaching job for the Miami Dolphins on Jan. 19.

Gannon was fired in Arizona on Jan. 5 after a 3-14 season that saw starting quarterback Kyler Murray miss most of the season due to a foot injury.

Gannon finished his Cardinals tenure with a 15-36 record over three seasons.

Before his head coaching job with the Cardinals, Gannon served as the Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator for two seasons. In his final season, the Eagles had 70 sacks and ranked second in total defense.

According to ESPN, before hiring Gannon, among the known candidates Packers head coach Matt LaFleur interviewed were Christian Parker, who was named Cowboys defensive coordinator, Chicago Bears pass game coordinator Al Harris (a former Packers cornerback) and Minnesota Vikings pass game coordinator Daronte Jones. A source said LaFleur also interviewed each one of his defensive assistant coaches, ESPN said.

Starting at $3.50/week.
