Florence’s Truth Setner scored 23 points and reached the 1,000-point career mark as the Bobcats defeated Goodman-Pembine 75-66 in a Northern Lakes Conference game Friday.

The host Bobcats led 32-28 at halftime.

“I thought Goodman-Pembine came out ready to play and played hard the whole game,” said Florence coach Bryan Bomberg. “It was a day filled with a lot of emotions,” he added. “It was Senior Day, Truth getting his 1,000 career points and Parents Night. I think all those things surrounding the game affected us a bit more than we anticipated.”

Florence put three other players in double figures as Mason Koski scored 17 points, Promice Setner netted 16 and Bowen Spears contributed 11.

The Patriots were led by Wailer Severson’s 17 points. Vinnie Ipsa and Brayden Lewis chipped in 14 each.

Sixteen of Truth Setner’s points came in the second half as the Bobcats managed a 45-38 scoring edge.

“He’s a good ballplayer and I firmly believe he’s got more left in the tank and his better ball is yet to be played,” Bomberg said of Setner, who is a senior. “He has a quick first step, can get to the rim, hits the mid-range and knocks the three-ball down. I’m very proud of him — he joins an elite crew at FHS and he should be proud.”  

Florence (10-11, 3-5) travels to Green Bay Providence Academy on Thursday as it prepares for the WIAA Division 5 tournament. The Bobcats will host Plainfield Tri-County on Tuesday, March 3, in their tourney opener.

“We have to get better defensively,” Bomberg said. “We cannot take nights off on the defensive side of the ball.”

Goodman-Pembine (6-15, 0-8) hosts Gibraltar tonight and Marinette St. Thomas Aquinas on Friday.

The Patriots in the postseason travel to Tigerton on Tuesday, March 3.
