IRON MOUNTAIN – An offensive explosion powered Kingsford to a season-high in goals Thursday night, as the Flivvers celebrated Senior Night with a 9-2 non-conference shellacking of Rhinelander at Mountain View Ice Arena

Senior Will Murvich and sophomore Casey Clisch each recorded a hat trick, senior Jacob Deuter scored twice, and the Flivvers matched their win total from a season ago, improving to 10-12-0 with two regular season contests remaining on the schedule.

“We definitely moved the puck better,” Flivvers head coach Greg Wadge said. “Scully played well in net for the shots he saw. Hopefully we can do more of the same on Tuesday against Manistique and we’ll see how it goes Thursday at Calumet. But overall, a good win. The guys played well.”

Outshooting the Hodags 47-22, The Flivvers put in three goals in each period. The lead was 3-0 after one thanks to scores by Murvich, Clisch and Deuter with assists handed out to sophomores Jacob Waara and Trinton Paynter, Murvich and Clisch.

Rhinelander, who Kingsford also defeated 7-1 back on Dec. 31, scored early in the second period but by the end of the frame the score mushroomed to 6-1 as Clisch completed his hat trick and Murvich added another. Second period helpers went to Murvich (2), Paynter and senior goalie Nate Scullon.

Murvich scored his third early in the final period, unassisted, and junior Jonah Doenier snapped in another goal, with assists by freshman Colin Olsen and senior Cam Stratton. Deuter’s second tally ended the game via the mercy rule with 1:36 remaining. Sophomore Carter Steber assisted on the wrister shot from the high slot.

Clisch’s four-point evening upped his team lead in goals to 19. Murvich now has 14 goals and 13 assists to lead the team in total points at 27. Deuter reached double digits in goals with 10, and Doenier’s score was his sixth of the season.

Scullon finished with 20 saves and improved 7-5-0.

The Flivvers will play their final regular season home game Tuesday, hosting Manistique (3-17-1). The final game takes place Thursday in Calumet (15-6-1). Kingsford then likely will face either Negaunee or Manistique in a playoff on Feb. 17 with a good chance of that one being played at Mountain View.
