Iron River’s Nick Baumgartner, gold medalist from the 2022 Olympics, will be back for another run Thursday at the 2026 Milano Cortina Games.

Baumgartner won the mixed snowboard cross with Lindsey Jacobellis in Beijing, becoming at 40 the oldest-ever Olympic snowboard medalist. He could set more history at Livigno Snow Park during the men’s snowboard cross, which begins with seeding runs at 3 a.m. Thursday. Coverage is scheduled on Peacock and later on USA Network.

The finals are set for 6:45 a.m.

Baumgartner told USA Today he may not be done with this Olympics.

“I think it would be cool to be able to retire on home soil,” he said. “So we know what that means? 2034. Salt Lake City, Utah. I will do everything I can to be there. Can I make it there? I have no idea. Are we going to find out? Absolutely. As long as I’m having fun and I’m competitive – which go hand in hand – I will continue to do this sport, and I will continue to go out there and push myself.

“The longer I do this, the more people that I can inspire and push toward their dreams and motivate them to go out and get what they want out of life. Because if I’m 52 years old in 2034, and I’m still doing this, you have no excuse to not go chase your dreams.”

Baumgartner is at his fifth Olympics, going back to Vancouver 2010.

Starting at $3.50/week.
