IM bowlers wrap up season at regionals

Iron Mountain placed fourth in a nine-team field at the MHSAA Division 2 girls team bowling regionals held Saturday in Gaylord.

In the boys Division 2 regional, also in Gaylord, Iron Mountain placed sixth in a 12-team field.

The top two teams at the regional qualified for the state finals this weekend in Waterford.

Bay City John Glenn and Bay City Western were the girls qualifiers while Bay City Western and Ishpeming-Negaunee qualified on the boys side.

Also qualifying for the state meet were the top seven individual bowlers at the boys and girls regionals.

One Upper Peninsula boys bowler — Ishpeming-Negaunee junior Killean Ryan — qualified for the state finals with a fifth-place showing.

Among 67 boys competing, three bowlers representing Iron Mountain placed in the top 20: senior Gavin DuBose, 13th; freshman Logan Faucett, 19th; and sophomore Aiden Niemi, 20th. Iron Mountain finishers also included sophomore Jaricho Hudson, 26th, and sophomore Lucas Steadman, 41st.

Other U.P. boys teams competing in the regional were Marquette, fourth place; Escanaba, eighth; and Calumet, 11th.

In the girls individual competition, two bowlers from Iron Mountain placed in the top 20: senior Chloe Roell, 17th, and sophomore Lilah Schafer, 20th. The other Iron Mountain finishers were junior Noahlee Terlaje, 34th; sophomores Marissa Campbell and Signe Trindal, tied for 41st; and senior Joleigh Osieczonek, 44th.

Senior Sara Harvey of Ishpeming-Negaunee placed third and senior Hayden Schetter of Marquette placed sixth to reach the state finals.

Other U.P. girls teams at the regional were Ishpeming-Negaunee, fifth; Marquette, seventh; and Calumet, eighth.
