Kriegl, fellow Flivvers, earn GNC hoops honors

Kingsford senior Jack Kriegl was named Defensive Player of the Year in basketball awards announced by the Great Northern Conference.

Kriegl was also named a first-team All-GNC selection.

Selected to the second team were Kingsford senior Owen Olkkonen and junior Jett Buckley.

Kingsford junior Gaige Sorenson received honorable mention.

Player of the Year was Menominee senior Tanner Theuerkauf and Coach of the Year was Menominee’s Sam Larson.

Other first-team picks were Gladstone junior Lonnie Davey, Menominee senior Darrent Butler and Marquette seniors Ford Richardson and Connor Fierstine.

Rounding out the second team were Gladstone sophomore Alex Prins, Menominee junior Talan Woods and Marquette junior Brody Clements.

Menominee won the conference with a 7-1 record — it’s only loss coming against Kingsford on Jan. 19.

Marquette finished 6-2 in the GNC; Kingsford, 4-4; Gladstone, 3-5; and Escanaba, 0-8.
