ND girls, boys sweep Rockets
FELCH TOWNSHIP – Ava Oman and Aspen Anderson scored seven points each in the first quarter to lead the North Dickinson Nordics to a 14-point lead on their way to a 62-17 victory over Rapid River as part of a girls-boys doubleheader Monday at Carl F. Lemin Gymnasium.
After taking a 16-2 lead after one, the Nordics pushed further in front in the second, building a 33-7 lead at the halftime break.
“Good all-around team effort and unselfish basketball,” ND coach Kirk Mattson said. “It was nice to see some shots go in tonight as that has been a struggle for us the last month.”
North Dickinson (10-9) finished with 24 field goals made, including six 3-pointers.
Oman topped the Nordics with 15 points to go with 14 each from Anderson and Khole Roberts.
Raina Ledzian recorded with eight points, including two triples.
The Nordics will close their regular season Thursday when they travel to Carney-Nadeau (7-11).

The Nordics shot 51% and knocked down 31 field goals attempts in their boys game win at Carl F. Lemin Gymnasium.
The UPSSA Division 4 fourth-ranked Nordics (17-3) roared out of the gates with 29 points in the first quarter to take a 13-point lead into the second.
Spencer Kramer scored 12 of his game-high 24 points in the opening eight minutes and sank two of his three 3-pointers.
ND, winners of four straight games, extended its advantage over the Rockets (10-11) to 43-24 at halftime and then 61-39 after three quarters.
Ty King posted eight of his 22 points in the third quarter as the Nordics’ offense kept rolling.
King also hauled down 13 rebounds for his double-double. Brady Jungwith finished with nine points and teams high in assists (4) and steals (3).
The Nordics hosted D4 No. 5 L’Anse (15-4) Tuesday to wrap up their regular season slate.
North Dickinson begins MHSAA District 100 play on Wednesday, Feb. 25, when they host the winner of the first-round game between Rapid River and Big Bay de Noc to be played two nights earlier.
