FELCH – MHSAA Division 4 No. 9 North Dickinson put four players in double figures, built a 39-5 halftime lead and suffocated Rapid River 67-39 in a District 100 semifinal at the Carl F. Lemin gymnasium Wednesday evening.
The Nordics (19-3) will attempt to claim a second straight district title tonight, hosting Munising (6-13) at 6 p.m. North Dickinson toppled the Mustangs 52-32 in the only regular season matchup between the teams back on Jan. 15.
Against the Rockets (11-13), seniors Brady Jungwirth and Spencer Kramer led ND with 16 points each, Kramer knocking down a couple of threes along the way. The Nordics jumped out to an 11-0 lead and only grew the margin from there by forcing turnovers for easy breakaway buckets. Junior Trenton Kramer poured in 14, and junior Jason Graham added 11 points in a contest that was over by the second quarter.
“The first few minutes were slow, but we got a little more aggressive and produced some steals,” Nordics head coach Chris Mattson said. “I thought Brady and Spencer sparked us there early on. We had a lot of people get hands on balls, deflections, which led to layups on the other end. So that was huge. Defensively, we were on point.”
With the game never in doubt, Mattson was able to distribute minutes up and down the bench, which proved helpful with a couple of players still feeling the effects of a bug that worked through the team.

North Dickinson senior Spencer Kramer elevates for a layup during the second half against Rapid River on Wednesday. Kramer scored 16 points in the Nordics’ victory.
“Our main players did their thing,” he said. “Offensively I thought we were balanced. All in all I thought our defense was good enough to allow us to get to halftime with a sizeable lead. It was a good win for us.”
Sophomore Mason Florenski added six points, and senior Ty King scored four more. The Nordics only went to the line a few times, knocking down 3-of-6.
Junior Lane Olson paced the Rockets with 12 points, and junior Kamden Duerson dropped three treys for nine points in a spurt during the fourth quarter.
Munising heads into tonight’s district final after a 65-39 victory over Superior Central. The winner of tonight’s game heads to regional play at Kingsford High School on Tuesday, facing either Forest Park or Norway.
